An EPUB file is a ZIP archive that contains, in effect, website-including HTML files, images, CSS style sheets, and other assets. Thus, more often than not, a KF8 file will contain both a MOBI file at the beginning and the newer KF8 version of ePub later.ĮPUB is the most widely supported vendor-independent XML-based (as opposed to PDF) e-book format. However, the basic format remains as a PDB file similar in structure to a MOBI. The internal format has been decoded using mobi_unpack. It targets ePub 3 version support, but existing ePub can also be used. KF8 (also called AZW3) is essentially a compiled ePub that has utilizes a Palm database and Amazon's DRM scheme. The term is short for electronic publication and is sometimes styled ePub.
